Pokemon GO is magical, and I’m scared for it to end.

Pokemon GO came out not too long ago and like everyone else, I've been playing it. Not as much as most people who have Pokemon with absurd combat power, but enough to still have fun. However, today I decided to take a trip around town with a friend and find the nearest PokeStops and gyms. My house doesn't have any Pokestops or gyms near it, so I figured I might as well do this now. Long story short, I ended up driving to the park just about 15 minutes away. As I got out of my car, there were at least 100 people walking around, staring at their phones, playing Pokemon GO! It was insane.

My Unorganized Thoughts On Microsoft HoloLens

Author's Note: My thoughts carelessly thrown together below. May or may not be in a logical order, but more of how they're coming out of my head as I freely write this. You've been warned for grammar, haha. I've been reading a lot about Microsoft's HoloLens. The more and more I do, the less gimmicky it seems (based on how some people I know are reacting to it), and actually more like a brand new interface device for computers. Somethings I think people are mixing up is the idea that it's something you wear on you 24/7, which isn't the case. It's more like a PC or laptop today, where it comes with you, and you use it when it's appropiate. It's not Google Glass or an Apple Watch. It really seems to be an extension of a computer monitor to the world around you. Applications aren't 'programs' as we…

Gaming in 2014 – Top 5 Games, Stats and More!

As 2014 winds to a close and I read the "top 10 games of 2014" lists from around the interwebs, I put together my own list of my top games of 2014. Before I jump into the list, I decided to compile some gaming stats from the year. These stats come from the available information from my profiles on Xbox, TrueAchievments, Steam, etc. Let's dive into those first: Fascinating Gaming Statistics of 2014: On Xbox LIVE I unlocked 494 Achievements for a total of 11,264 gamerscore. For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, I won achievements in 46 of the games I played. The top Xbox game that gave me the most achievements and gamerscore this year was Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. I earned 1200 gamerscore out of 54 achievements in that game! I earned over 1000 gamerscore in three games this year. They were Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare,…

4 Social Media Tips for Game Developers

Being on a social media platform is key for any game developer. Whether you are an indie or triple-a game developer, having a social media account for your game is a must. One thing I have noticed while browsing other game developers on Twitter, Facebook, and so forth, is that some developers miss out on a few things that would instantly help propel their page and help them reach a wider audience for their game and company. Because of this I have created a handful of quick social media tips for game developers, and anyone else using social media for their product or brand. #Hashtags - Use Them Often Ever since Chris Messina "invented" the hashtag on Twitter, they have taken off to become the new way we find content on the web. If you're looking to find people talking about Unity 3D, a popular game development engine, you will find the…

Lost In Space: Zero Gravity – Releasing Soon!

Hey everyone! I have some great news for those of you who have been following my progress on my latest hobby project, Lost in Space. As of a few days ago, I wrapped up the core of the game, polished it up, and submitted it to Apple for App Store approval. This means that in just a few weeks the game will be available for you to play! Additionally, due to the name Lost In Space being taken on the App Store, I've had to make a small change to the name, and I decided to call it Lost In Space: Zero Gravity. I feel like that's a great name for the game. What is Lost In Space: Zero Gravity? Lost In Space: Zero Gravity is a very simple endless runner. In the game, you are simply an astronaut drifting out into the void that is space. You must dodge asteroids…

Back to School: Personal Goals For The Year

Tomorrow I'll be headed back to school at Becker College in Worcester, MA. I'll be majoring in Game Production and Management, which is a hybrid of business management, marketing and project management majors. Last year, I took a year off to set my mind straight, decide 100% on what I want to major in, and to also get a few personal things done. As I start the school year off, I've decided to set some personal goals for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. Ultimately, I want to set these goals to test myself and achieve some great things over these next two semesters. Here they are: Release Two Games on iOS - Also Get iOS License I want to release a few games in iOS this year. That will involve me getting my own personal iOS license. I really like making games, but actually polishing them up, being able to release it,…

Lost in Space: Game Development Update – 6/3/14

For the past few weeks I've been working on a small iPhone/iPad game called Lost in Space. In the game, you control an astronaut who has disconnected from their spaceship and is now flying through the infiniteness of space. You dodge asteroids, collect power-ups and try to see how far you can get before the inevitable happens. I had the idea for this game after watching the movie Gravity many months back, however I just haven't had the time to sit down and make the game. I thought the idea of an untethered astronaut could make a great infinite runner. Current Progress: Alpha As of right now, I am about 20 hours or so into the project. I've been tracking my progress through a modified version of a burndown chart, made for tracking just myself and the entire project at once instead of on a weekly basis. For more on…
