Gaming in 2014 – Top 5 Games, Stats and More!

As 2014 winds to a close and I read the "top 10 games of 2014" lists from around the interwebs, I put together my own list of my top games of 2014. Before I jump into the list, I decided to compile some gaming stats from the year. These stats come from the available information from my profiles on Xbox, TrueAchievments, Steam, etc. Let's dive into those first: Fascinating Gaming Statistics of 2014: On Xbox LIVE I unlocked 494 Achievements for a total of 11,264 gamerscore. For Xbox 360 and Xbox One, I won achievements in 46 of the games I played. The top Xbox game that gave me the most achievements and gamerscore this year was Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. I earned 1200 gamerscore out of 54 achievements in that game! I earned over 1000 gamerscore in three games this year. They were Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare,…

I Made A Game About Bacon – Sequel Incoming!

Many months ago I worked on a Bacon Game Jam project called Bacon Cannibalism. The game simply consists of you, the player, feeding raw bacon to a cartoon strip of bacon. When I originally heard of the Bacon Game Jam, I knew it was something I wanted to participate in, but did not have much free time the weekend it was taking place. However, I still wanted to make something. So I hurried over to my computer near the end of the game jam and put together Bacon Cannibalism. I did everything in this project including the art, which highly surprised me that I made "decent" art for a game. You can check out the "finished" product of Bacon Cannibalism here: http://mudry.me/games/BaconGameJam7/ I recently decided to revisit this very short game project the other night, and suddenly was inspired with a whole new way to eat bacon in a video game. This…

Back to School: Personal Goals For The Year

Tomorrow I'll be headed back to school at Becker College in Worcester, MA. I'll be majoring in Game Production and Management, which is a hybrid of business management, marketing and project management majors. Last year, I took a year off to set my mind straight, decide 100% on what I want to major in, and to also get a few personal things done. As I start the school year off, I've decided to set some personal goals for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. Ultimately, I want to set these goals to test myself and achieve some great things over these next two semesters. Here they are: Release Two Games on iOS - Also Get iOS License I want to release a few games in iOS this year. That will involve me getting my own personal iOS license. I really like making games, but actually polishing them up, being able to release it,…

Boston FIG: Exhibiting My First Show

Last weekend, my team and I exhibited at a local video game event, the Boston Festival of Indie Games. The event showcases roughly 100 different indie games from the New England area, primarily Boston. This event however was my very first event that I have worked and not attended as a fan. My team, Play Nimbus, showcased our game, Wobbles at the convention. Preparation The past few weeks have been crazy. We've launched our game and been working on preparing for our showing of Wobbles at Boston FIG. We debated for a while if we should get stickers to hand out, postcard sized promotion cards, a banner, etc. We also wanted to make sure we had some sort of sale during the convention. We ultimately decided to keep it simple. We ordered a 6 foot wide banner that clearly shows the game, Wobbles. We decided against ordering anything like stickers,…

Kickstarter Report: Organic Panic – Worms Meets Little Big Planet

I love indie games. Why? Well, not only because I'm a games developer, but indie games are able to present a huge amount of creativity and freedom, thus you can create blends between two completely different games to make something amazing. That is exactly what Last Limb is doing with their upcoming game, Organic Panic. Organic Panic brings the gameplay and destruction of the classic game Worms and forges it with the creativity that is held behind Little Big Planet with level editing and customization. The team at Last Limb has spent many years developing a wonderful physics engine that allows both of these games to exist in a world together. Some of the core features of the game and it's physics engine revolve around it's destruction system. You can destroy everything you see, play with the fluids, and do pretty much whatever you'd like. The game uses the destruction…

Kickstarter Report: Codename Cygnus – Interactive Radio Drama Comes to Your iPhone

Jonathon Myers, a well respected game and narrative designer in the Boston area has recently launched a Kickstarter for Codename Cygnus, an interactive radio drama for your iPhone. After hearing Jonathon tease the project for months on end at various local game developer meetups, it's great to see the Kickstarter to help push them right to the finish line for the project and help them create something unique and wonderful. In Codename Cygnus, you "play as a secret agent in an interactive fictional world inspired by old time radio dramas." Using voice recognition to interact and engage, you interact with this interesting story. The game is 100% story driven and is surely to be a fun experience. The game features some well known voice actors, such as: Logan Cunningham - Narrator from Bastion, Sarah Elmaleh - Skulls of the Shogun & Gone Home, Chris Ciulla - Fallout: New Vegas, and many…
