“You Can See Everything” continues to just live rent free in my head. I cannot stop thinking about this movie nor reading and listening to everyone’s reviews. This discourse is just so tasty.

One of my favorite conversations I’ve found so far has been between Jake Steinberg and Abram Buehner. I highly recommend you find an hour of your time to listen. The angles they approach this movie from just get you thinking.

Also, I’ve also started reading “Bad Blood: Secrets and Lies in a Silicon Valley Startup” by John Carreyrou. The perspective this book is giving me on Elizabeth Holmes feels exactly what my brain is craving after seeing this documentary. I’m glad I went into the movie first a bit blind on her story, but reading this book really adds to what I already experienced. I’m only a few chapters in so far, but I look forward to writing a bit more once I finish the book.

I wrote a recommendation for the documentary “You Can See Everything” which you can read here, but here are a few more quick thoughts and takes I have coming out of this movie:

  1. There’s something about Nathan’s emotions and reactions on screen having been nearly one-to-one of mine for the whole movie that felt incredibly fitting.
  2. It was fascinating watching the same beats in the movie landing as comedy for some and recognition as others. Some awkwardness was funny, some awkwardness was deeply (and sometimes scarily) true. It made me wonder about my own brain’s wiring, my way of relating to Nathan, and how much deeper I was reading into Elizabeth’s situation. I too did find the humor in those moments, but viscerally felt something much deeper beyond the surface level comedy.
  3. Even though it’s three hours long, this documentary feels like a road trip full of twists and turns that you want to be on and become deeply invested in arriving at the destination.
  4. Amanda Seyfried’s parts and roles in this movie were so critically important and unique here and is something I did not see coming. I didn’t expect to like having an actor who played someone be a critical star in this movie.
  5. I think the fact that Fielder and Oppenheim are still trying to make sense of the movie they filmed is incredibly accurate to how I feel after leaving the theater. (Sourcing this thought from here and here, as well as a few interviews I saw reels of on social media)
  6. It feels like Nathan Fielder made a Season 3 to The Rehearsal but instead made it a movie.

I’m still trying to understand what I have truly taken away from seeing this movie, or at least articulating the feelings in my brain at the moment, but I know for sure that I will be trying to squeeze in one more screening. And then pre-order the Blu-Ray the second that’s available.
