I am eagerly awaiting the release of Cities: Skylines II, but worried that my computer will not run it.

Really, this is my biggest worry about the game right now. While I knew watching early gameplay videos on YouTube (both the official streams and what creators have been able to post up to this point) that the game is quite the improvement over the last game in the series.

The AI / agents system is absolutely overhauled, performing better than ever. The graphics are stunning. And the amount of features, depth, and expanded city size is a phenomenal addition. But of course, all of that comes with the cost of computer resources, and it’s something my current rig absolutely is going to struggle to handle. 😅

Seriously, doesn’t this game just look beautiful?

For context, my current gaming PC was purchased in mid-to-late 2016. The processor is old enough to the point where it sadly cannot be upgraded to Windows 11 (which the inner tech nerd in me desperately wants to try!).

While I am excited for Tuesday’s release, all of the additions and upgrades the new Cities: Skylines game has, tied with the dev’s note about performance at launch, just has me a little worried that come release, I am going to be spending a lot of time in the settings menu trying to dial in settings just to hit somewhere under 30 FPS.

I’ll admit, I was a little bummed when they said this game wasn’t launching on consoles via Xbox Game Pass on day 1. That was absolutely going to be my backup plan, especially since its predecessor supported mouse & keyboard on consoles, so I do have the assumption this release will too, although truthfully even if it doesn’t their controller support is great for a city builder like this.

Luckily, I am not planning on purchasing the game on Steam, at least not yet, since the game is available on PC Game Pass Day 1, of which I already have it pre-loaded and waiting to be unlocked. However, I absolutely know that I am going to be very tempted to order a brand new gaming rig come Tuesday night. (and I won’t lie, I’ve already been speccing one out, but y’know… money…)

All of my worries about the game now off my chest and set aside, my gosh does this game look amazing or what?!

Every early access video, livestream, and post from a content creator has me getting more and more excited. I didn’t expect to ever have this much excitement for a game release, at least not since Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (which also truly has tested my computer… haha)

Fingers crossed for Tuesday…! 🤞Until then, more Destiny 2 to grind and play!
