Clocking in at just under thirteen and a half hours of gameplay, I have finished my play through of Alan Wake: Remastered.
Alan Wake is a game I have been a huge fan of for a really long time. I remember playing it… wow… thirteen years ago. when it first came out. In fact, small humble brag incoming… I actually had the honor to play it a few weeks before release since I received a review copy for the gaming blog I ran at the time.
I knew at the time I first completed it that the game was something special. Everything from the story to the gameplay just tied itself together so wonderfully. It actually felt like the perfect video game, at least in my book. And that comes from someone who at the time was obsessed with first person shooters like Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, and Battlefield.
Flash forward to today, and I can absolutely say that Alan Wake: Remastered absolutely holds up to what I would call a “perfect video game.”
- A core gameplay loop that evolves at a steady rate? check!
- A solid challenge, at all difficulty levels? check!
- A rock solid story? check!
- A desire for more upon completion? check!
Having been so long since my last play through of the game, it also answered the classic question of “what’s something great you wish you could experience all over again for the first time?” It was the perfect trip down a memory lane I had completely forgotten about.
Honestly, I couldn’t have asked for anything more after replaying this game.
While I do still have to play through the two (?) DLCs that are included with the game, I am very much looking forward to starting Control in the next couple of weeks, naturally followed by Alan Wake 2 sometime after.
Remedy has me hooked, yet again, and I am so excited.
